Despite a penalty lap, Reiter finished Saturday's race in 11th place as the second-best BMW. After a good start on Sunday, Reiter was taken out of the race through no fault of his own in a crash on the opening lap.
It was already clear during the practice sessions on Thursday and Friday that the BMW M4 GT4's balance of performance meant that top positions were not possible. Philip Wiskirchen secured 18th place on the grid in qualifying for Saturday's race. Reiter took over the BMW from Wiskirchen in tenth place at the halfway point of the race. During the driver change, the team fell two tenths of a second short of the minimum pit stop time. In the subsequent penalty lap, Reiter fell back to 12th place and was able to secure 11th place after a strong overtaking maneuver.
In the very close qualifying session for Sunday's race, Reiter finished 16th, just one tenth of a second behind a place on the sixth row of the grid. At the start of Sunday's race, Reiter managed to overtake four cars in the first few corners, but then his BMW was badly damaged on the driver's side when a competitor spun. After a tire change in the pits, Reiter initially remained in the lead lap. However, due to the damage, the driver's door could no longer be closed and the driver duo Reiter/Wiskirchen had to end the race prematurely in the pits.
"We can't be satisfied with the two races at the Red Bull Ring. I got off to a really good start on Sunday, but then I had no chance of avoiding the competitor who spun into my BMW. With the damage to the car, it was no longer possible to maintain a normal pace. Our goal now is to deliver another optimal performance at the finale in Hockenheim," said Tim Reiter.
